The Importance of Selection

At the basis of a high-performance recycling of plastics, which is economically sustainable and able to originate a real “circular economy” there is a modern packaging selection system for polymers, types and, in some cases, colors.

The most recent and technologically innovative example in this sense is the installation that A2A Ambiente inaugurated in Cavaglia (BI) last November, capable of treating 45,000 tons of plastic from separate collection and that will soon be joined by a similar one in Muggiano (MI), in an advanced stage of construction. Thanks to mechanic separators, optic scanners and the work of 70 employees, 13 types of “products” and “subproducts” have been selected to be sent for recycling and recovery after four processing phases: receiving and tearing of the collection bags, mechanic separation, optic separation and final manual quality control, which precedes the pressing into bales of homogeneous composition for the successive start to recycle.

The installation respects the highest environmental and security standards, constituting itself a model of “circular economy”: 33 cameras to monitor each phase, 33,000 kWh produced from the installation’s photovoltaic positioning on the roof, rainwater reused to reduce the consumption
